Dongola, November 23 (Darfur24)

The Northern State Security Committee revealed on Saturday that one person was killed and two were injured during a clash between the Sudanese army and the Awlad Qamari group in Dongola on Friday night.

According to the committee, the group, which joined the army after the outbreak of war and was designated the “Reconnaissance Battalion,” reportedly refused orders to integrate with the 75th Infantry Brigade. Its commander, Hussein Yahya Mohamed Jumaa Al-Toumi Qamari, displayed defiance, wore an unauthorized Lieutenant Colonel rank, and threatened to use force against army personnel.

The army responded with force. One member of the battalion was killed, Qamari was injured and transferred for medical treatment, and several battalion vehicles and weapons were seized.

Founded by two brothers, Hassan and Hussein, the Awlad Qamari group has previously been involved in smuggling operations. Activists noted the battalion had recently allied with the Sudan Shield Forces led by Abu Aqla Kikel, angering the army. Members also participated in recent Kordofan battles alongside Sudan Shield.

The Security Committee ordered all battalion members to report to the Dongola Operational Sector within 48 hours and surrender any remaining weapons or vehicles.
