Zalingi, November 20 (Darfur24)
A civilian was killed on Tuesday after an exchange of gunfire erupted among armed members of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) inside the main market in Zalingi, Central Darfur State.
According to multiple sources, the incident began as a dispute between RSF personnel that escalated into a shooting.
Al-Fatih Ishaq, an eyewitness, told Darfur24 that the confrontation stemmed from a financial disagreement between RSF members inside a coffee and shisha shop. He said the exchange of fire resulted in the death of 32-year-old Shawqi Adam Ahmed, the owner of the shop.
The victim was shot in the head and died instantly, according to the witness.
A medical source at Zalingi Teaching Hospital confirmed that the body was transferred to the morgue before being handed over to the family following legal procedures.
Zalingi has been under RSF control since November 2023, after limited clashes with the Sudanese army ended with the army’s withdrawal and the establishment of a civilian administration led by Abdulkarim Yusuf.
