Zalingi, November 19 (Darfur24)
For the first time in nearly three years, water is once again flowing to parts of Zalingi, Central Darfur, after the main station resumed pumping to the Al-Wadi neighborhood and Zalingi Teaching Hospital.
A staff member at the teaching hospital, who requested anonymity for security reasons, told Darfur24 that efforts by international humanitarian organizations successfully brought the hospital’s water line back into operation, along with portions of the Al-Wadi residential area.
He said continued meetings between international organizations and the civil administration led to the reactivation of the water system drawing from the Wadi Aribo wells. Pumping to the Al-Wadi neighborhood has reportedly remained stable since October, while the line supplying the hospital was reconnected last Saturday.
Zalingei witnessed limited clashes between the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese army in November 2023. The fighting ended with the army’s withdrawal and the RSF’s takeover of the city, after which a civil administration headed by Abdulkarim Yusuf was established.
