Port Sudan, November 17 (Darfur24)

The African Union’s Special Envoy for the Prevention of Genocide, Adama Deng, arrived in Sudan on Sunday for a series of meetings with government officials in the coastal city of Port Sudan.

According to the Sudan News Agency, Deng will remain in the country for four days. During the visit, he is scheduled to meet officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Justice, and Religious Affairs, as well as hold talks with the Attorney General.

Officials say the AU envoy will receive briefings on the current situation in Sudan, with a particular focus on violations committed against civilians in several states during the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Discussions will also address threats to Sudan’s unity, security, and overall stability.

The AU stated that Deng’s visit reflects the continental body’s deep concern over the humanitarian and security crisis in Sudan and its commitment to supporting efforts aimed at ending the war and halting abuses against civilians.
