Port Sudan, November 11 (Darfur24)

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty held talks on Tuesday in Port Sudan with the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.

During the meeting, Burhan expressed appreciation for Egypt’s continued support for Sudan in regional and international forums, and its stated commitment to Sudan’s security, stability, and territorial integrity. He stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two neighboring countries in various fields.

In a statement following the meeting, Abdel-Aty said he conveyed a message of solidarity from President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to Burhan, reaffirming Egypt’s “firm and principled” support for Sudan’s unity and sovereignty.

The talks covered bilateral relations and ways to enhance political, economic, and trade cooperation. The Egyptian minister emphasized the shared interests between the two countries, particularly on water security, describing it as an “existential issue” for both Egypt and Sudan as downstream states of the Nile River.

Abdel-Aty added that he received a briefing from Burhan on the security and humanitarian situation in Sudan, and reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Sudan and its national institutions, including the armed forces.
