Nyala, November 3 (Darfur24)
Eyewitnesses and local sources in Nyala reported on Monday that goods looted from El Fasher, following the Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) takeover of the city, have begun appearing for sale in several markets in South Darfur State.
Witnesses told Darfur24 that items believed to have been looted from El Fasher were displayed in Nyala’s livestock market, the popular market, and the Baghdad market, locally known as Shakik market, south of the city.
They said the goods included vehicles, building materials, household furniture, and agricultural equipment.
A trader in Nyala told Darfur24 that the prices of these looted items are significantly lower than regular market prices. He added that “brokers” receive the items from RSF members or individuals locally referred to as “Shifshafa”, then resell them in markets at higher prices.
According to the trader, the goods are first collected in houses on the outskirts of the city, where brokers assess their value before resale.
Prices for building materials reportedly range between 30,000 and 50,000 Sudanese pounds for zinc sheets and between 10,000 and 20,000 pounds for pipes, compared to store prices of around 120,000 pounds for zinc and 80,000 pounds for pipes, depending on size and quality.
Local sources also confirmed that large numbers of looted vehicles have been arriving in Nyala since the RSF took control of Zamzam Camp, near El Fasher, in April. Car prices vary by model, with small vehicles—known locally as “Double Poco”—selling for 1 to 2 million Sudanese pounds, while their market value typically reaches 8 million pounds.
RSF military sources told Darfur24 that no combat vehicle is permitted to enter El Fasher without a movement order issued by the group’s command.
