Khartoum, November 1 (Darfur24)
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced the arrest of several individuals accused of committing abuses during the group’s takeover of El Fasher, including a man known as “Abu Lulu,” who appeared in videos carrying out field executions of people in civilian clothing.
In a video released by the RSF on Thursday, Abu Lulu was seen handcuffed and escorted by armed personnel into Shala Prison in El Fasher, where he was placed inside a detention cell.
In a statement, the RSF said that legal committees have begun investigating those detained in preparation for bringing them to justice, emphasizing that the measures aim to prevent any violations of human dignity or breaches of international conventions, particularly the Geneva Conventions.
The RSF stressed that it is handling the matter “with full responsibility to achieve justice,” and rejected what it described as “intimidation and politicization campaigns” by Islamic movement platforms seeking to exploit the situation for political purposes.
The statement reaffirmed the RSF’s commitment to the rule of law and to holding accountable anyone involved in abuses or violations, regardless of rank or position, stressing that “no one is above the law.”
The RSF announced on Sunday that it had seized control of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur—a development that, according to the UN Human Rights Commission, was accompanied by widespread abuses against civilians, including extrajudicial killings.
RSF Commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo “Hemedti” earlier announced the formation of legal and military committees to investigate the violations in El Fasher, pledging accountability for any soldier or officer found guilty of crimes.
On Thursday, RSF Deputy Commander Abdul Rahim Hamdan Dagalo issued a directive ordering strict adherence to the law, military discipline, and the protection of civilians during operations, including facilitating humanitarian aid and preventing any acts that violate human dignity or international law.
The order, published on the RSF’s Telegram platform, instructed commanders to ensure that all personnel under their authority comply fully with the RSF Law and relevant international agreements, particularly the Geneva Conventions.
