Nyala, October 28 (Darfur24)

At least four civilians, including a child, were killed and several others injured on Sunday in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur State, after stray bullets were fired during celebrations marking the Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) capture of El Fasher.

Eyewitnesses told Darfur24 that hundreds of residents in Nyala and other cities across Darfur took to the streets in mass celebrations following the RSF’s announcement of taking control of the 6th Infantry Division headquarters in El Fasher. The celebrations were accompanied by heavy gunfire from light and heavy weapons.

Witnesses from northern Nyala said that among the victims was Marwa Mohammed Suleiman, a child from the Atash camp for displaced persons. Two other victims lived in the 16th district north of the livestock market, while another was from the Riyadh neighborhood.

A medical source confirmed to Darfur24 that several others sustained injuries of varying degrees after being struck by stray bullets. Four of the injured were treated at Al-Siddiq Clinic in Nyala.
