Al-Rahad, October 27 (Darfur24)
The Sudanese Armed Forces repelled an attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Sunday morning, targeting their advanced positions in the village of Um Bashar, located about 12 kilometers west of the city of Rahad in North Kordofan State.
Sources from the area told Darfur24 that heavy clashes erupted as the RSF launched the assault early Sunday, but the army managed to repel the attack and push the fighters back toward the Alouba area, one of the RSF’s known positions around Rahad.
A local leader in the city denied media reports suggesting that Rahad itself had come under direct attack, confirming that the fighting was limited to the outskirts in Um Bashar.
Mohamed Hasaballah Mohamed al-Daw, the mayor of the West Rahad administration, told Darfur24 that the armed forces, supported by other regular units, successfully repelled the RSF assault. He said several soldiers and civilians living near the combat zone were injured during the clashes.
The mayor emphasized that the situation inside Rahad remains calm, with no immediate security threats or indications of a renewed RSF advance. “Life is proceeding normally in the city,” he said.
Sunday’s attack comes amid intensifying military operations between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces across several states, as North Kordofan continues to witness heightened tension and attempts by both sides to consolidate their positions in the region.
