El Fasher, October 26 (Darfur24)
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced on Sunday that they had taken control of the headquarters of the Sudanese Army’s Sixth Infantry Division in El Fasher, North Darfur State.
There was no immediate response from the Sudanese Army or allied armed movements regarding the RSF’s claim.
In a statement posted on social media, the RSF said it had “achieved a new victory today, Sunday, October 26, 2025, by liberating the Sixth Division in El Fasher and establishing full control over the strategic military site.”
The group added that its forces had inflicted “heavy losses” on the army, destroyed several military vehicles, and seized large quantities of weapons and equipment.
Videos shared online by the RSF purportedly show its fighters inside the division’s compound, which the group described as the army’s last stronghold in El Fasher.
Meanwhile, sources in the city told Darfur24 that violent clashes erupted on Saturday between the Sudanese Army, its allied forces, and the RSF across multiple fronts in the city.
The sources claimed that RSF forces had made significant advances in several directions, reaching the outskirts of the First Class neighborhood in the west. The RSF reportedly seized the army barracks, the command school from the southern side, and entered the presidential residence, the Public Prosecution buildings, and the nearby Bank of Sudan branch, as well as areas surrounding the Sixth Division headquarters.
Videos posted by RSF fighters appeared to show them inside the state governor’s residence. Darfur24 verified the authenticity of the footage, confirming RSF presence at the site.
An eyewitness from the First Class neighborhood described Saturday’s fighting as the most intense since the outbreak of the war, citing the use of drones and heavy artillery by the RSF, with explosions and gunfire echoing across the city’s southern and northeastern areas.
However, a senior Sudanese military source denied to Darfur24 that the RSF had advanced toward the presidential residence or the Bank of Sudan. The source said the army continued to hold key positions, including the Grand Market, Nabd Al-Hayat Hospital, the Jebel Marra Medical Complex, the Legislative Council, and El Fasher Stadium, along with several other government institutions in the city center.
He added that the army and joint forces repelled RSF attacks launched from the Abu Shouk camp for displaced persons and the Awlad Al-Rif neighborhood in the south.
A medical source at the state Ministry of Health reported that at least six civilians were killed and several others, including women and children, were injured by artillery and drone fire in various neighborhoods. On Friday, five civilians were also killed in the new central market in the First Class neighborhood, west of the army command.
The RSF continues to impose a suffocating siege on El Fasher as it seeks to seize the city, the Sudanese army’s last major stronghold in Darfur, ffollowing its capture of military positions in Nyala, Zalingei, El Geneina, and El Daein since 2023.
