Khartoum, October 21 (Darfur24)

The Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, said on Tuesday that he welcomes initiatives to end the war, provided they exclude the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their supporters from Sudan’s future.

In a recorded address from Khartoum Airport, al-Burhan stated that the Sudanese people seek “peace built on solid national foundations,” stressing that these principles must guide all peace efforts.

“We do not want any militia or any party that supported the rebellion to have a role in Sudan’s future,” he said.

Al-Burhan added that the army remains committed to defeating what he described as “the rebellion” and will not allow its return.

“We welcome all sincere efforts that can restore life and peace to us—on one condition, a condition that is not surprising given the suffering Sudan and its people have endured,” he said.

His remarks come amid renewed regional and international efforts to broker a ceasefire. The Quartet, comprising the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt, proposed a roadmap last September to end the conflict and revive the path toward a civilian democratic transition.

In its statement, the Quartet underscored that Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity are essential for peace and stability, reiterating that there is no military solution to the conflict. It called on all parties to ensure rapid and unhindered humanitarian access, protect civilians, and refrain from indiscriminate attacks in accordance with international humanitarian law and the Jeddah Declaration.

The Quartet also proposed a three-month humanitarian truce to enable aid delivery across the country, leading to a permanent ceasefire and the launch of a comprehensive transitional process within nine months toward an independent civilian government.
