El Obeid, October 20 (Darfur24)
The National Umma Party announced on Sunday that security forces in the city of Bara arrested its deputy head in North Kordofan State, Siddiq Ghandour, while he was on his way to El-Obeid.
In a statement obtained by Darfur24, the party said Ghandour was detained on Thursday without explanation. His place of detention remains unknown, and his family has been denied the right to visit or contact him.
The party condemned the arrest, describing it as “a continuation of the systematic targeting carried out by the security services against the party’s leaders, cadres, and other political forces.”
It demanded Ghandour’s immediate release along with all detainees, and called for an end to arrest and harassment campaigns targeting civilians trapped by the war.
The statement noted that Ghandour had remained with his family and community in Bara throughout the conflict, enduring the harsh humanitarian conditions caused by more than two and a half years of fighting.
“Despite his steadfastness and service to his community, he is being rewarded with arrest and retaliation,” the party said, accusing elements of the former regime within the security services of acting with a “mentality of revenge and exclusion.”
The National Umma Party warned that such violations will not deter it from its principled stance against the war and its call for a just peace and democratic civilian transition.
The Sudanese army recently recaptured the city of Bara from the Rapid Support Forces.
