Abu Karshola, October 15 (Darfur24)
Two civilians were killed and a third was injured when gunmen opened fire on a vehicle traveling between Abu Karshola and Umm Barambeta in South Kordofan State on Tuesday.
The victims were identified as Muath Osman Adam and an unidentified woman. A third passenger, Muath’s uncle, was wounded and transferred to Abu Jubeiha Hospital for treatment.
Suleiman Hassan, an eyewitness, told Darfur 24 that an unknown armed group intercepted several citizens traveling in a tuk-tuk from Umm Barambeta to Abu Karshola and opened fire on them at close range.
“This is not the first incident, but rather an extension of many similar incidents in the region, which have caused widespread fear and panic among residents,” he added.
Local communities are urging authorities to secure key roads and nearby farmland, which see constant civilian movement and have become frequent targets of armed looting.
