El Fasher, September 29 (Darfur24)

At least seven people were killed and more than 20 others injured on Sunday after a drone strike targeted the Abu Qurun market in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, amid renewed clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Witnesses told Darfur24 that an RSF drone bombed the busy market in the morning hours, as fighting flared on the northeastern front of the city before subsiding later in the day.

Adam Ibrahim, a trader, said the attack caused extensive casualties and damage, with the wounded transferred to the Saudi Hospital. A medical source at the hospital confirmed receiving dozens of injured, including victims of artillery shelling and others hurt in strikes near the Abu Qurun clinic.

El Fasher has been witnessing continuous displacement, with residents fleeing on foot or by traditional means due to ongoing military operations. Since last August, RSF forces have advanced into several areas of the city, including the Abu Shouk camp, which has faced artillery and drone attacks since May 2024.

The conflict has devastated the city’s infrastructure, with only 5 percent of hospitals operating at partial capacity.

RSF forces have maintained a tight siege on El Fasher since April 2024, in a bid to seize the army’s last stronghold in Darfur.
