Al Daein, September 20 (Darfur24)
The Ministry of Health in East Darfur State has banned funerals and mourning ceremonies for cholera victims, as the death toll from the outbreak surpassed 86, according to official estimates.
Hassan Hamida, the Executive Director of the ministry appointed by the Rapid Support Forces, said in a press statement that the measure was taken to curb the spread of infection.
He also prohibited displaying or selling food and beverages in or around hospitals and health facilities, except for meals provided by the Nutrition Department or prescribed by doctors.
Health officials say East Darfur is experiencing a rapidly escalating cholera outbreak amid the near-collapse of medical services. Isolation centers are struggling with shortages of medicines, rehydration solutions, and basic resources, leaving health workers unable to respond effectively.
