Chadian Federal Minister of Health, Abdelmajid Abdelrahim, affirmed that the Chadian government is fully committed to cooperating with international humanitarian organizations to ensure the safety of Sudanese refugees.

On Thursday, the Chadian Minister of Health visited the Abu Tenge camp for Sudanese refugees for the third time in two months to assess the health situation on the ground and review the plans put in place to limit the spread of cholera.

Abdelmajid indicated that efforts are continuing to provide the necessary support to address the growing health challenges, most notably the threat of a cholera outbreak.

In the same context, a sheikh of a Sudanese refugee camp in eastern Chad told Darfur 24 that the Chadian government recently launched a large-scale vaccination campaign against cholera, in coordination with humanitarian organizations that work in the health sector . The campaign aims to vaccinate thousands of Sudanese refugees, Chadian citizens, and displaced persons, with the aim of limiting the spread of the disease and protecting vulnerable groups.

He added that, in addition to vaccination, the campaign includes comprehensive health awareness programs on cholera prevention. It includes the distribution of vaccines in various refugee camps and areas , based on a plan prepared by the Ministry of Health in cooperation with local authorities, particularly in Asanga Governorate, which is witnessing a rise in the number of suspected cases.

He pointed out that Sudanese refugee camps are witnessing a continuous influx of people fleeing the conflict in Sudan, amidst a deteriorating health environment, which increases the risk of the spread of infectious diseases such as cholera and hepatitis.
