Thousands of people gathered in Al-Suhaini Square in Nyala, South Darfur, on Sunday to declare their support for the Sudan Founding Alliance (Tasis) government.

The Tassis formed a 15-member presidential council headed by Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, with SPLM-N leader Abdel Aziz Al-Hilu as vice president. It also named former council member Mohamed Hassan Al-Taishi as prime minister.

Eyewitnesses told Darfur 24 that thousands rallied in Al-Sahini Square to express their support for the newly formed government, at the invitation of the civilian administration affiliated with the RSF.

They noted that the march was attended by citizens from Nyala and others from the localities of Bilil, Kass, Al-Salam, and Ad-Fursan, in addition to members of parties and movements affiliated with the Tasis coalition, as well as military personnel from the Rapid Support Forces.

Addressinh a rally at Al Suhaini square the, head of the civil administration in South Darfur, Youssef Idris Youssef, called on the African Union and the Arab League to recognize Tasis government.

Explaining that the reasons for forming the Tasis government were to lift the injustices suffered by residents of the “periphery,” facilitate access to identification documents, and organize secondary school exams in Nyala next year, after a deprivation that lasted more than three years.

Youssef accused the de facto government in Port Sudan of treating residents of the periphery as “foreign faces,” changing the currency, and increasing hate speech and racism.

It is worth noting that the Tasis coalition on July 27 picked Nyala as its administrative capital for the newly formed government.
