Adre, July 16(Darfur 24)

Local health sources revealed to Darfur 24 confirmed case of cholera and dozens of suspected cases in the Douki refugee camp, south of the Chadian city of Adre.

Chad hosts at least one million Sudanese refugees who fled their homes due to the war that has been raging in Sudan for more than two years.

A health worker, who spoke to Darfur24 on condition of anonymity, told Darfur 24 that there are dozens of suspected cases, including a confirmed case of cholera, that has reached Douki camp, which houses 40,000 Sudanese refugee families.

He stressed the need for awareness campaigns in refugee camps to alert residents to the dangers of the disease, ways to prevent it, and to report suspected cases immediately.

Sudanese refugees in eastern Chad are suffering from complex humanitarian conditions due to the decline and irregularity of food aid, along with declining health services.
