The Ministry of Health in South Darfur State announced on Wednesday the registration of five new cases of cholera, according to the daily report issued by the General Department of Health Emergencies and Epidemic Control.

The ministry explained in a post on its Facebook page, seen by Darfur 24, that the new cases were distributed among the following: one case from the Al-Hujayrat area, Marla Administrative Unit; two cases from Nyala South Locality: one from the Al-Jir South neighborhood and the other from the Al-Wahda West neighborhood; and two cases from Nyala North Locality: one from the Atash Center 5 camp and the other from the Al-Salam West neighborhood.

The ministry indicated that the cumulative number of infections since the outbreak began last May has risen to 329, while the total number of deaths has reached 26.

It stated that the cumulative cases in Nyala North locality reached 139, Bilil locality 155, Nyala South 33, and Ntiga locality one.

The Ministry added that “the isolation center at Nyala Teaching Hospital received two new cases today, and all cases in the isolation ward were transferred to the isolation center at Al Nahda Hospital, which also recorded three new admissions.”

It emphasized that the Ministry of Health is continuing its efforts to contain the spread of the epidemic by intensifying awareness campaigns, providing healthcare to those infected, and monitoring water sources.
