El Fasher, July 1(Darfur 24)Seven civilians, including five members of one family, were killed and others were injured on Monday as Rapid Support Forces( RSF) bombed El Fasher, North Darfur State.
Eyewitnesses told Darfur 24 that the Rapid Support Forces renewed their artillery shelling of residential neighborhoods in El Fasher since 8:00 a.m., causing civilian casualties.
Ahmed Adam Ibrahim, a local community leader in the Abu Shouk al-Hilla neighborhood, told Darfur 24 that the shelling resulted in the deaths of at least seven civilians in the western neighborhoods of El Fasher, including five members of one family, while six others were injured.
A medical source at the Saudi Hospital confirmed to Darfur 24 that they received a number of wounded, including civilians, as a result of the artillery shelling on Monday morning.
In addition, military sources reported to Darfur 24 that the army repelled a new attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the southern axis.
RSF has been launching attacks on El Fasher since May 10, 2024, in an attempt to seize control of the army’s last stronghold in Darfur. However, the army and allied joint forces are fiercely defending the city.
The ongoing conflict in El Fasher has led to a severe humanitarian crisis, with most of the city’s residents now relying on “ambaz”—the leftover peanuts left over after oil extraction—as their primary source of food.
The RSF maintains a firm grip on large parts of the eastern neighborhoods and some of the southern neighborhoods of El Fasher, while the army controls the western and northern neighborhoods, the city center, and parts of the southern neighborhoods.
