The Ministry of Health in South Darfur State announced on Monday the registration of eight new cases of cholera, including six cases in Nyala North Locality, and one case each in Nyala South and Balil Locality.
In a statement obtained by Darfur 24, it said that since the outbreak of the disease on May 27, 291 cholera cases have been recorded, including 21 deaths.
It explained that 127 cases were recorded in Nyala North, 28 cases were spotted in Nyala South, while 135 cases were recorded in Balil locality, in addition to one case in Nitega.
Last week, Doctors Without Borders MSF announced that it had opened a new cholera treatment center at Al Nahda Hospital in Nyala, after 250 cases were recorded at Nyala Teaching Hospital.
South Darfur is the state most hit by cholera in the Darfur region, with the disease also spreading in East Darfur and North Darfur.
