Wad Madan, May 27(Darfur 24)
Rehab Mubarak, a member of the Executive Office of the “emergency lawyers” a human rights group, announced on Tuesday that the Sudanese army has arrested approximately 1,000 residents of Al-Jazeera State on charges of collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces RSF .
Rehab Mubarak cited, in a report published on her Facebook page, the example of the village of Wad al-Shafi’i, which was stormed by a force of Sudanese army mobilization officers, who apprehended approximately 50 people from the village on charges of collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces.
The report explained that the village of Wad al-Shafi’i was stormed on February 15 at around 4:00 PM by a force of two vehicles containing approximately 12 individuals, led by the mobilization officers Jassim Amer, Al-Tayeb Khaled, and Muhammad Abdullah Kamal al-Din, accompanied by a civilian named Al-Tayeb Abdullah Hassan.
According to report, the force arrested approximately 50 village residents, including men, women, pregnant and nursing mothers, and the elderly, from their homes before gathering them in a large hall in the center of the village. They were severely beaten for hours by Al-Tayeb Abdullah Hassan and Jassim Amer, in front of a commanding officer with the rank of major, from 4 p.m. until the evening prayer. The officers then insulted the village women with obscene language.”
The report indicated that the detainees were then transferred to Wad Madani Prison, confirming that they were beaten there and denied food and sleep on the first day.
It was stated that the detainees later learned that their arrest was ordered by Military Intelligence Captain Mohamed Abdullah Abdel Rahim, after he accused the villagers of collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces. He accused them of not leaving their homes after the army withdrew from the Al-Jazeera, and giving food and water to the Rapid Support Forces, according to the report.
The report continued, “Dozens of males and females from Wad al-Shafi’i remained in Wad Madani detention center for months, along with hundreds from neighboring villages, in extremely poor conditions. They were fed raw porridge and lentils with small amounts of water, not even enough for a small child. They were also denied access to bathrooms.”
The report listed 50 people arrested from Wad al-Shafi’i village, some of whom were later released, while others remain in custody.
The report added that thousands of people from the villages of Al-Jazirah, who suffered from the violations and abuses of the Rapid Support Forces in the past, are still languishing in Wad Madani prison, and are now suffering the “flames” of the army’s prisons on charges of treason, collaboration, 7because of their continued presence in their villages after army withdrawal from Al-Jazeera State.”
