The International Court of Justice( ICJ)Jsaid on Thursday that Sudan has filed a case against the United Arab Emirates UAE before the court on the grounds of “complicity in genocide” due to its alleged support for the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces RSF.
The court said in a statement that Khartoum considers the UAE“complicity in genocide against the Masalit tribe by directing and providing extensive financial, political and military support to RSF rebels.”
Sudan called on the Court of Justice, the highest judicial body of the United Nations that adjudicates disputes between states, to issue provisional measures to force the UAE to pay compensation.
Sudan said in its complaint “the UAE must fully redress the damage caused by its internationally wrongful actions, especially by paying compensation to war victims.”
For its part, the UAE denounced Sudan’s complaint before the court, considering it a “malicious propaganda ploy,” stressing that it will seek to invalidate it.
The latest complaint is nothing more than a cynical propaganda ploy aimed at diverting attention from the Sudanese Armed Forces’ deep-seated complicity in the widespread atrocities that continue to wreak havoc on Sudan and its people, a UAE official said in a statement.
“The allegations made by the Sudanese Armed Forces representative before the ICJ lack any legal or factual basis and represent yet another attempt to distract from this disastrous war,” the statement added.
“Out of respect for the ICJ… the UAE will seek to dismiss this baseless application immediately,” the statement concluded.
