January 26, 2025 El-Daein – Darfur24 Commercial activity has resumed at El-Rigaibat border crossing between East Darfur and South Sudan, following recent events targeting Sudanese nationals.

Cities in South Sudan witnessed widespread violence and looting against Sudanese and their businesses, resulting in 16 fatalities, following violations committed by the Army against citizens of the neighboring state in El-Gezira State.

Suleiman Omar, the owner of a travel agency in El-Daein, told “Darfur24” that commercial activity at El-Rigaibat crossing has resumed after weeks of suspension, thanks to the restoration of security and the return to normalcy in South Sudanese cities.

Suleiman Omar noted that five vehicles moved towards South Sudan through the crossing on Saturday, and six trucks loaded with goods entered El-Daein from South Sudan.

A traveler coming from the city of “Wau” to El-Daein confirmed that travel to and from the capital, Juba, has returned to normal after the deployment of police forces there.

It is worth mentioning that the Government of South Sudan has implemented a series of security measures to ensure the safety of Sudanese citizens and protect properties to maintain trade between Darfur states via the El-Rigaibat border crossing.

RSF in East Darfur State had deployed military forces to protect refugee camps for South Sudanese nationals in the cities of El-Daein, Abu-Karinka, and El-Firdous.
