January 25, 2025 Khartoum – Darfur 24 Army Spokesperson Brigadier General Nabiel Abdallah announced on Saturday the regaining of control over Al-Jaili Refinery, located 60 kilometers north of the Capital, Khartoum.
Images and video clips circulated by activists on social media showed the presence of the Army and its allies in the damaged Refinery and the release of prisoners previously held by Rapid Support Forces.
On Wednesday, the Army and Rapid Support Forces exchanged accusations of burning and destroying the Refinery, which has a maximum capacity to refine 100,000 barrels of oil per day.
The attack on the Refinery sparked fires throughout the complex, according to satellite data from NASA, which tracks forest fires around the world.
Satellite data analyzed by The Associated Press showed Saturday that the ongoing fighting around Al-Jaili Refinery had set the sprawling complex ablaze, sending thick, black and polluted smoke billowing over the country’s Capital.
The Army’s announcement of control over the Refinery came hours after lifting a siege on the General Command in central Khartoum, marking a turning point in the 19-month-old war.
