Abu Matariq, September 14 (Darfur24)

The Health Department in Bahr al-Arab locality, East Darfur State, has resumed a vaccination campaign for nomadic children for the first time since the outbreak of Sudan’s armed conflict.

The director of the Health Department, Ibrahim Kafouta told Darfur24 that the campaign began this week, targeting children under one year old and will cover the areas of Sharshari, Tuluwah, Al-Naseeh, Narga, Al-Hawala, and Al-Qardaya in the eastern phase.

He added that the areas of Al-Faydh, Al-Ingra, Umm Sa’daya, Tutuluto, Jaluwah, Dhulmah, Abu Amuna, Al-Harazaya, and both Umm Krisha Al-Wazina and Umm Krisha Al-Qurna in the western phase are targeted.

Adam Mekki, a prominent nomadic leader in East Darfur, welcomed the initiative, noting the joy of families whose children are finally receiving essential vaccines.

He appealed to government agencies and humanitarian organizations to continue supporting the campaign and to restore basic healthcare services for women.

The nomadic community in East Darfur has faced dire humanitarian conditions due to the collapse of health services and the suspension of primary care for children and women since the war began.
