El Fasher , August 8(Darfur 24)

A medical source in the Ministry of Health of North Darfur State announced on Thursday that 10 people were killed and others were injured as shelling was renewed in El Fasher, North Darfur.

The source told Darfur 24 that the Saudi Specialized Hospital received 12 wounded and is still receiving wounded until this evening, most of whom are elderly people from the neighborhoods of “Tambasi, Al-Radeef, the Livestock Market, and Al-Thawra” south of the city.

The source revealed a severe shortage of medicines and medical supplies, including blood bags, and medical equipment for surgical operations, which threatens the lives of some of the wounded who need urgent surgery.

A trader in the livestock market, Musa Muhammad Ibrahim, told Darfur 24 that the Rapid Support Forces began shelling the city with heavy artillery, targeting a number of neighborhoods, the large market in the center of the city, the Sudanese army command, and the headquarters of the joint force of armed movements “UNAMID”.

He said that the artillery shelling of the livestock market resulted in the killing and wounding of a number of merchants and street vendors, the destruction of a number of restaurants and shops, and the partial burning of some shops.

An eyewitness who preferred to remain anonymous told Darfur 24 that the army responded to the intense artillery shelling by shelling the Al-Salam neighborhoods and factories under the control of the Rapid Support Forces.

He pointed out that the artillery shelling targeted the neighborhoods of Tambasi, Al-Radeef, Awlad Al-Reef, and Al-Thawra, and left dead and wounded, the number of whom is not yet known due to the difficulty of movement and reaching the depths of the neighborhoods.

A citizen in Al-Fasher, Najm Al-Din Muhammad Ahmed, confirmed to Darfur 24 that the Sudanese army launched an intensive air strike this morning on the positions of the Rapid Support Forces in the northern and eastern neighborhoods of the city, amidst dense columns of smoke rising.

He said that the air strike lasted for more than half an hour, as the Antonov aircraft dropped approximately 6 explosive barrels.

The Governor of Darfur, Minni Arko Minawi, said in a tweet on his Facebook page that the violent artillery shelling using heavy artillery in the city of El Fasher against unarmed citizens in their homes, in the livestock market west of the city, and in the neighborhoods of Al-Radeef and Al-Thawra led to the killing and wounding of dozens, whose numbers are being counted.

Minazi condemned the targeting of innocent citizens, markets, public facilities and hospitals, calling on the international community to intervene quickly to stop these violations and the shedding of innocent blood, according to him.
