Nyala, October 12 (Darfur24)
Six people were killed and several others injured in tribal clashes in Abu Ajoura, South Darfur state, while two people were killed and two others injured in a separate gun attack on a viewing club in Umm al-Khair, Central Darfur, according to local sources.
In Abu Ajoura, calm returned to the area following clashes that erupted last Thursday in Krugeri Valley in the Qunu area of Ad Al-Fursan locality, which borders Al-Salam locality to the west.
A resident told Darfur24 that a dispute among three people resulted in the killing of one man by two others. The victim’s relatives then pursued and killed the two men, prompting their relatives to mobilize an armed group and head towards the first victim’s family.
The two sides exchanged gunfire, killing three more people and injuring others, before the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) intervened and separated them, the resident said.
A leader of the Native Administration in South Darfur told Darfur24 that the Native Administration in Al-Salam locality had helped contain the crisis and prevent further armed gatherings. He said the RSF deployed reinforcements, arrested several suspects and transferred them to Nyala. The forces also secured the weekly Saturday market in Abu Ajoura.
Efforts are underway to organize a reconciliation conference and secure a cessation of hostilities between the two sides, with mediation by the Tarjam and Mahadi tribes, the leader added. The initiative aims to stabilize the area ahead of the harvest season.
In a separate incident, two people were killed and two others injured on Saturday when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a viewing club in Umm al-Khair town, Wadi Saleh locality, Central Darfur state, according to eyewitnesses and local sources.
Adel Abdullah, a resident of the town, told Darfur24 that the gunmen fired at people inside the club as they watched the football match between Real Madrid and Villarreal.
He identified one of the victims as Ezz El-Din Ramadan Idris, who was in his twenties. The second victim was not identified. The injured included Adam Hassan and the son of Mohammed Douka, a local notable, he said.
Ismail Al-Fuka, another resident, said residents had filed a report with the police and that some had gone out to search for the attackers, but had not apprehended them at the time of reporting.
The gunmen, who were riding motorcycles, opened fire directly at those inside the club before fleeing to an unknown location, Al-Fuka said. The motive for the attack remains unknown.
Darfur24 was unable to obtain comment from local authorities or Native Administration leaders regarding the attack.
The incidents come amid continuing insecurity across Darfur, where communities face tribal clashes, armed looting and kidnappings, some reportedly involving ransom demands from victims’ families.
The RSF controls most of Darfur, except for areas in Jebel Marra controlled by the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Abdul Wahid Nour, and the towns of Al-Tina, Karnoi and Ambro, which are controlled by the Sudanese army and allied joint forces.
