Nyala, October 10 (Darfur24)

Displaced people at Kalo Katan camp in Kass locality, South Darfur State, are facing deteriorating health conditions amid the spread of diseases and a lack of humanitarian assistance, according to a camp representative.

Nour El-Din Yaqoub, a member of the camp’s emergency response room, told Darfur24 that the camp lacks health centres to provide treatment, contributing to the spread of diarrhoea and malaria among displaced people.

He said residents had received no assistance from humanitarian organizations operating in South Darfur since the camp was established following the outbreak of war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). He noted that the only organization that supported them dug communal latrines at the camp.

Yaqoub called on the relevant authorities and humanitarian organizations to reach the displaced people and provide urgently needed assistance.

The camp hosts about 15,000 displaced people living in harsh conditions and lacking necessities, according to previous reports by Darfur24.

The ongoing conflict between the army and the RSF has deepened the humanitarian crisis across Darfur, forcing repeated waves of displacement. Aid operations remain constrained by difficulties reaching people in need and limited donor funding for the humanitarian response.
