Addis Ababa, October 08 (Darfur24)
Sudanese journalist Haitham Osman, a member of the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate Council, was released on Wednesday after being detained for about two weeks by Ethiopian authorities in Addis Ababa, according to a reliable source who spoke to Darfur24.
Osman and two other Sudanese nationals were arrested on September 25 on a street near their residence in Addis Ababa and taken to an undisclosed location, according to the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate.
The syndicate said Ethiopian authorities did not initially disclose the reasons for their detention or their whereabouts.
Osman’s detention raised concerns among Sudanese journalists, with the syndicate calling on Ethiopian authorities to disclose the reasons for the arrests, clarify the detainees’ whereabouts, and ensure their safety and legal rights.
The circumstances surrounding the detention and the reasons for Osman’s release were not immediately clear.
