Nyala, October 07 (Darfur24)
A drone, believed to belong to the Sudanese army, targeted Rapid Support Forces (RSF) positions in Nyala, South Darfur State, in the early hours of Tuesday, according to multiple sources.
Three sources told Darfur24 that the drone targeted RSF headquarters in the Al-Mazlaqan area and an airstrip at the former United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) camp north of Nyala. They said they had no information on casualties or damage.
Residents in northern Nyala told Darfur24 that they heard two consecutive explosions at around 1 a.m., with the blasts strong enough to shake the walls of nearby homes.
Residents said the explosions coincided with the takeoff of an aircraft stationed at Nyala International Airport. The aircraft had landed late Monday evening, shortly before the explosions occurred.
The reported strikes come amid an escalation in drone attacks by the warring parties across Sudan, raising further concerns over risks to civilians.
UN reports have said drone attacks during the war have killed more than 1,000 civilians across Sudan.
