The Sudanese Teachers Committee on Sunday called on authorities to review the suspension of salaries for about 40 teachers in North Kordofan State, including four in Bara locality, and disclose the reasons and legal basis for the decision.
In a statement, the committee said decisions affecting employees’ salaries and financial rights must be transparent and accountable, particularly amid the exceptional circumstances facing the state.
A teacher affected by the decision told Darfur24 that he visited the Ministry of Education to inquire about the suspension but was told it had been ordered by a security agency.
He said he later contacted the General Intelligence Service, where officials told him the agency was not responsible for the decision.
The committee called on the authority that issued the order to publish the names of all affected teachers and explain the legal and administrative grounds for each suspension, allowing the decisions to be reviewed and challenged.
It warned against using the country’s circumstances to settle personal or institutional disputes, or exercising administrative powers in ways that deprive workers of their livelihoods without clear justification.
The committee also highlighted the case of a teacher due to retire within days, saying his employment and financial entitlements should be protected from any action that could jeopardize them.
It urged the authorities to review the suspensions immediately, clarify the circumstances surrounding the decision and guarantee affected teachers the right to know the reasons and appeal through legal channels.
