The Blue Nile State government said on Wednesday that five civilians were killed and others injured in drone strikes by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeting four fuel stations in Damazin.
Regional government spokesperson Saif al-Nasr Manallah Mahmoud said during a press conference that the attacks targeted four petrol stations, causing civilian casualties and damaging the facilities.
He warned that attacks on fuel stations would worsen economic conditions and negatively affect the agricultural season in the region.
Damazin came under successive drone attacks on Monday, targeting several areas of the city, including the vicinity of the airport, a military hospital and a fuel station. The Sudanese army accused the RSF of carrying out the attacks.
The executive director of Damazin locality said the security situation in the city remained stable and that authorities had begun assessing the material damage caused to the targeted fuel stations.
Authorities urged residents and media outlets to rely on official sources for information and avoid spreading rumors about the security situation.
Drone attacks have intensified in Blue Nile since February as fighting escalated in Qaysan and Kurmuk near the Ethiopian border. Damazin has also received waves of people displaced by the fighting.
