The Founding Alliance government, TASIS, is preparing to introduce a package of laws regulating the work of federal and regional authorities as it completes its administrative and legislative structures.
The announcement comes amid increased political activity in Nyala, where the Minister of Decentralized Governance has been holding meetings with government secretaries and administrative officials from the Darfur region and parts of Kordofan to discuss local and regional governance arrangements.
Salah al-Din al-Mawj, Secretary of the Government in the Civil Administration of South Darfur State, said the meetings focused on strengthening the role of the Ministry of Decentralized Governance in drafting legislation to regulate regional and local government institutions.
According to a statement issued by the Civil Administration’s media office, the proposed legislation includes a Decentralized Governance Law, a Financial Resources Distribution Law, and an Administrative Officers Law.
Al-Mawj said the government plans to involve legal experts and professionals in drafting the legislation to ensure it addresses the needs of the current phase.
The TASIS coalition has adopted a federal system of governance comprising a Presidential Council, a Cabinet, and a Regional Council.
The coalition includes the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), the National Umma Party, several Darfur armed movements, as well as independent political figures and civil society representatives.
