Al-Daein, July 13 (Darfur24)
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in East Darfur State have launched a large-scale security campaign in Al-Daein targeting illegal weapons, drug trafficking and other activities they say have threatened public safety in recent months.
The campaign, which began on Saturday, aims to restore security in the city’s markets by raiding locations suspected of selling weapons and drugs. It also bans the wearing of the kadmoul, a face covering commonly used by armed groups, inside markets.
RSF sources told Darfur24 on Monday that the operation followed repeated complaints from residents and traders.
The sources said the open sale of weapons in Al-Daein market had become a direct threat to traders and their property, while drug trafficking and consumption had spread in several parts of the city.
They added that the campaign also responds to a series of looting, killings and intimidation incidents reported in different neighbourhoods of Al-Daein, which have heightened insecurity among residents.
According to the sources, the campaign aims to curb the spread of illegal weapons, drug trafficking and the use of the kadmoul, while improving security and stability across the city.
Al-Daein has witnessed repeated security incidents in recent months, including armed robberies and threats against residents and businesses.
