Nyala, July 06 (Darfur24)
Health authorities in South Darfur State announced on Sunday that they have intensified their field response measures after confirming three cholera cases, including two involving individuals who had recently arrived from North Kordofan State, where a cholera outbreak is currently ongoing.
In a statement, the Ministry of Health, which operates under the Rapid Support Forces-controlled administration, said rapid response teams carried out extensive disinfection of the home of one patient in Nyala North locality and distributed chlorine to help prevent further transmission.
The ministry said teams also responded to two confirmed cases in Nyala South locality by disinfecting the patients’ homes and vaccinating family members, close contacts and neighbors as part of efforts to contain the outbreak.
It added that five emergency health response teams have been trained and equipped to ensure rapid intervention in the event of additional suspected cases and to strengthen the state’s capacity to respond to disease outbreaks.
The confirmed infections come as a cholera outbreak continues to spread in Al-Mazroub, North Kordofan State.
South Darfur previously conducted a cholera vaccination campaign in three localities of Nyala in September 2025 after a major outbreak infected 5,242 people and claimed 258 lives before the epidemic was brought under control.
