Khartoum, June 10 (Darfur24)
Drones believed to belong to the Rapid Support Forces targeted areas in Omdurman and Khartoum North on Tuesday, prompting Sudanese army air defenses to respond. Military sources reported that the attacks were intercepted without causing any casualties.
A military source told Darfur24 that several drones targeted the Wadi Sayedna military base and the Jabal Sarkab area north of Omdurman. The attack reportedly involved more than four missiles, which were intercepted by ground-based air defense systems.
Residents reported hearing loud explosions and witnessing anti-aircraft fire. Hawa Hassan, an Omdurman resident, said five powerful blasts were heard in the northern part of the city, accompanied by columns of smoke.
In Khartoum North, eyewitnesses said a drone flew over the Darushab and Samrab neighborhoods while air defenses engaged the aircraft. Residents circulated photos of what they said were remnants of projectiles linked to the attack.
A resident of Darushab told Darfur24 that one projectile landed near the Sunday Market area north of Bahri, causing fear among residents as explosions and anti-aircraft fire echoed across the neighborhood.
Authorities have not issued an official statement on the attacks or any potential damage. The incident has renewed concerns among residents about the return of drone strikes on military and civilian areas.
Since the outbreak of war in April 2023, drones have become an increasingly prominent feature of the conflict, frequently used by the warring parties to target military positions and, at times, areas near civilian populations.
