The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said on Monday that escalating insecurity in North Darfur has displaced 2,545 people from two villages in Um Buru locality.
North Darfur is currently hosting about 1.68 million internally displaced people, many of them living in dire humanitarian conditions.
In a statement, the IOM said that the newly displaced individuals fled the villages of Wadi Jank and Wadi Khazan between July 20 and 23, following a deterioration in the security situation.
The agency said most of the affected families sought refuge in Chad, while others moved to safer locations within Um Buru locality.
The latest displacement adds to the growing humanitarian crisis in North Darfur, where continued fighting has forced repeated waves of civilians to flee their homes.
