Karnoi, May 26 (Darfur24)
At least five civilians were killed and four others injured in a drone strike targeting the market in the town of Karnoi, northwest of El Fasher in North Darfur State, while the death toll from a similar attack in the border town of Al-Tina rose to 14, medical sources said on Monday.
A medical source in Karnoi told Darfur24 that the casualties were recorded in an initial toll following the strike on the town’s market.
The source identified the victims as Abkar Bakhit Jaddi, Muhannad Mahjoub Yahya, Muhammad Babiker Siddiq, Abkar Hawas, Mubarak Abdul Karim Abdul Rahman Qumu, and Abdul Nasser Adam Khater Mahmoud.
In the border town of Al-Tina, another medical source said the death toll from Sunday’s drone strike on a popular restaurant inside the local market had risen to 14 dead and 30 injured.
The source added that another drone resumed bombing late Sunday afternoon, causing additional casualties and worsening the already fragile medical situation.
Meanwhile, a local source in North Darfur told Darfur24 that the RSF had mobilized additional fighters ahead of a possible offensive on the areas of Karnoi, Ambro, and Al-Tina during the Eid al-Adha holiday.
The source said troop movements were observed in Abu Qumra and Kalbus, north of El Geneina, as well as in Sarf Umra in North Darfur, in what appeared to be preparations for renewed attacks on the remaining army-held areas in the region.
Karnoi, Ambro, and the border town of Al-Tina remain among the last strongholds of the Sudanese army and allied joint forces in Darfur after the RSF and its allies captured most major towns across the region, including El Fasher last October.
