Exclusive, March 28 (Darfur24)
The Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have reached informal understandings to avoid targeting Khartoum and Nyala airports, in a move aimed at easing humanitarian access, according to sources.
The two airports have previously been hit by drone strikes that damaged key infrastructure. However, sources told Darfur24 that attacks on both facilities have declined significantly in recent weeks.
The understandings were reportedly reached through mediation by foreign countries and organizations, as part of efforts to reduce escalation and protect vital civilian infrastructure.
Despite both sides possessing advanced drone capabilities, Darfur24 monitoring indicates that recent RSF attacks on several cities did not include Khartoum Airport.
The outlet could not independently verify the agreement with either party.
Nyala Airport was reopened by the RSF in September 2024 to receive supplies, while Khartoum Airport resumed limited operations after the army regained control of the capital in May 2025.
