Nairobi, March 14 (Darfur24)
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) arrested Abu Bakr Sharif, director of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society in West Darfur State, during a raid on his home in El Geneina two days ago, according to local sources.
Sources told Darfur24 that an RSF unit stormed Sharif’s residence in the city and detained him without announcing the reasons for the arrest or revealing his place of detention.
They said the RSF accuses Sharif of failing to cooperate with them and of submitting reports to the Sudanese Red Crescent Society headquarters in Port Sudan in eastern Sudan.
Following the outbreak of the conflict, the government, aligned with the Sudanese army, relocated its headquarters to Port Sudan, although some state institutions have recently resumed work from Khartoum.
Sources also indicated that a recent foreign trip made by Sharif raised suspicions among local authorities in West Darfur, who believed it might be linked to contacts with officials in Port Sudan.
Meanwhile, RSF and allies formed a parallel administration in areas controlled by the RSF, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North, and other Darfuri factions.
