Al-Junaynah, February 16 (Darfur24)
A drone strike hit a market in the Adikonq area west of Al-Junaynah in West Darfur State on Sunday, causing deaths and injuries and extensive damage to civilian property, according to local sources.
Sources told Darfur24 that a drone believed to belong to the Sudanese Armed Forces fired six missiles at a fuel market near the Chadian border. The attack reportedly triggered a large fire, resulting in casualties and the destruction of more than 100 shops.
Witnesses said several of the victims were Chadian nationals, noting that many traders operating in the border market come from neighboring Chad.
The civilian administration in West Darfur condemned the strike, describing it as a serious escalation against civilian livelihoods. In a statement, the administration said the bombing targeted a civilian service facility for the second time in three months, after a previous raid that left multiple casualties.
Officials added that efforts are ongoing to assess the full scale of human and material losses, amid renewed calls to investigate the incident and strengthen protection measures for civilians in border areas.
