Um Dafuq, February 06 (Darfur24)
Armed men attacked a police station in the border town of Um Dafuq in South Darfur State on Thursday, freeing a detainee before fleeing on motorcycles to an unknown destination.
Eyewitnesses told Darfur24 that police had earlier arrested a suspect under a warrant related to the alleged theft of a truck. The suspect later escaped custody, prompting police, affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), to detain his father.
Sources said the suspect’s brothers subsequently launched an armed assault on the police station, releasing their father before escaping the scene.
Following the incident, Um Dafuq’s local administration summoned the suspects’ tribal chief and demanded that the escaped men be handed over to the authorities.
The five Darfur states and large parts of West Kordofan remain under RSF control, where the group has established police and judicial structures in areas it administers.
