Kosti, January 20 (Darfur24)

White Nile State has received new waves of displaced families fleeing fighting in North and South Kordofan, as battles intensify in recent days and humanitarian conditions deteriorate.

Eyewitnesses and local sources in Kosti told Darfur24 that dozens of women and children arrived in the city throughout January in extremely difficult conditions, lacking basic necessities.

Mazen Mohamed Saleh, a volunteer, said more than 200 people arrived from Dilling and Kadugli in just one week and are currently sheltering in temporary locations. He added that they are in urgent need of water, food, shelter, and clothing, noting that humanitarian response remains limited compared to the scale of the crisis.

Saleh explained that most displaced families reached White Nile State after days of walking, followed by travel on scarce transport routes.

Meanwhile, Kosti resident Mahasin Abbas said displacement from West Kordofan areas — including Al-Mujlad, Babnusa, and Abu Zabad — began as early as December, adding that many of those arriving are families of Sudanese army personnel.

She warned that urgent government and international intervention is needed, noting that many displaced families are sleeping in public squares and open areas, while others have moved onward to Al-Jazirah, Al-Qadarif, Kassala, and Khartoum states.

A medical source at Kosti Hospital told Darfur24 that dozens of displaced people from Kordofan seek treatment daily, with most cases suffering from malaria and malnutrition.

For its part, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that displacement from Kadugli and Dilling in South Kordofan continues due to worsening insecurity. Ongoing threats by armed groups allied with the Rapid Support Forces to launch ground attacks on the two cities have triggered fear among civilians and prompted further flight to safer areas.
