Port Sudan, January 19 (Darfur24)

The general supervisor of the Joint Forces and leader of the Sudan Liberation Movement, Minni Arko Minawi, warned on Monday that Sudan could descend into chaos and fragmentation if a humanitarian truce is negotiated between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) as two separate governments.

In an interview with Darfur24, Minawi said there are clear indications of ongoing attempts to impose a political fait accompli through the emergence of parallel governing authorities.

He warned that negotiating as two governments would not stop at a division between east and west, but could lead to the formation of multiple smaller administrations across the country. “Any move in this direction will open the door to chaos,” he said.

The governor of the Darfur region affirmed that their position on peace remains firm, stressing, “We are not against a truce, but any truce must be clear.”

Minawi accused the United Arab Emirates of seeking to dominate Sudan’s political future, or at a minimum to exert control over western regions through allied forces. He said the RSF and the SPLM-North share an objective of imposing a fait accompli in Darfur and South Kordofan.

Commenting on the state of the battlefronts, Minawi said military operations are ongoing in some areas but remain below the required level. “There are many volunteers ready to fight, but they lack support,” he said, adding that leadership bears responsibility for the slow pace of operations.
