Al-Junaynah, December 29 (Darfur24)
The Salamat and Bani Halba tribes in South Darfur State have announced a final peace agreement ending a recent conflict between the two communities, following the payment of compensation to both sides.
The reconciliation was supported by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as “Hemedti,” head of the Presidential Council, according to tribal leaders involved in the talks.
Leaders from both tribes pledged to refrain from resuming fighting under any circumstances and committed to implementing the terms of the agreement on the ground, thereby strengthening social cohesion and maintaining stability in the area.
Community leaders expressed their appreciation for Dagalo’s role in supporting the compensation process and for efforts aimed at bringing the conflict to a permanent end. They also praised the role of the head of the civil administration in South Darfur State, Youssef Idris, Major General Abshar Jibril Balayl of the Rapid Support Forces, and the mediation committee for following up on the reconciliation process until an agreement was reached.
For his part, Youssef Idris emphasized the importance of adhering to the terms of the agreement, particularly those related to reopening roads and markets. He said the state authorities are committed to providing the necessary forces to ensure the implementation of the agreement and to definitively close the chapter on the conflict between the two tribes.
Idris called on the Salamat and Bani Halba communities to promote peaceful coexistence, reject division, prevent any attempts to undermine security and stability, and preserve the terms of the reconciliation.
