Health authorities in the Libyan city of Al-Kufra said a Sudanese refugee was killed and 18 others were injured on Saturday when a vehicle carrying refugees overturned near the Rabiana area.
A medical staff member at Martyr Attia Al-Kasih Hospital told Darfur24 that the accident occurred about 150 kilometers southeast of Al-Kufra. He said the hospital’s emergency department received 18 injured Sudanese refugees following the crash.
According to the medical source, the accident claimed the life of a woman and left nine people with fractures of varying severity. The remaining injured received first aid and medical examinations and are currently under observation based on their conditions.
UNHCR data from September indicates that Libya hosts approximately 357,000 Sudanese refugees, including about 193,000 in Al-Kufra municipality near the Sudanese border. An estimated 80,000 refugees reside in Tripoli, 10,000 in Benghazi, 7,248 in Misrata, 6,190 in Zawiya, and 20,443 in Jafara.
In eastern Libya, Derna hosts about 5,642 Sudanese refugees, Tobruk 5,768, and the Green Mountain area 3,822.
