Nyala, December 12 (Darfur24)

Emergency Response Rooms (ERRs) and Health Centers in Nyala, South Darfur, have announced the rehabilitation of the Al-Yamamah neighborhood water project in the Popular Housing area north of the city.

In a statement published on its Facebook page and reviewed by Darfur24, the ERRs said the chronic water shortage in the area had left residents struggling for months. The restored well is one of the main water sources in the neighborhood and a lifeline for families who depend on it daily.

It added that solar panels were installed to boost the system’s efficiency and increase pumping capacity, allowing water to reach residents more reliably.

The ERRs noted that the initiative aims to strengthen community support and meet basic needs, with the project also serving Popular Housing, the Grain area, and parts of Atash camp.

The group, a Sudanese grassroots and community-led network that has become the backbone of the country’s humanitarian response amid war, mass displacement, and state collapse, had earlier restored operations at the Nyala water station, which supplies central neighborhoods and Nyala Teaching Hospital. It added that work is underway to expand production, and several water lines damaged by the conflict have already been repaired.
