Nyala, November 7 (Darfur24)
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced on Thursday that they have agreed to the proposed humanitarian truce proposed by the Quartet countries, saying they are ready to begin immediate discussions on arrangements for a cessation of hostilities and the principles guiding the political process in Sudan.
The Quartet Mechanism, comprising the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, had called for the signing of a three-month humanitarian truce as a step toward broader arrangements for halting the war.
In a statement, the RSF said its approval aims to help address what it described as the catastrophic humanitarian impact of the conflict and to strengthen the protection of civilians by ensuring the delivery of urgent humanitarian aid to all regions.
“The Rapid Support Forces look forward to implementing the agreement and immediately beginning discussions on arrangements for a cessation of hostilities and the basic principles governing the political process in Sudan,” the statement read.
It added that any political process must address the root causes of war and pave the way for a comprehensive and lasting peace.
The RSF also expressed gratitude to the Quartet, particularly the United States, for what they called its intensive diplomatic efforts to facilitate the truce and support efforts to end the conflict.
