El Obeid, October 30 (Darfur24)

A drone strike on the Al-Zariba area in North Kordofan State, home to prominent Quranic schools, killed two people and injured five others, according to local sources.

Residents told Darfur24 that the drone bombed the area at around 8:00 a.m., destroying four civilian vehicles in addition to the casualties.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which control the area, accused the Sudanese army of carrying out the strike, saying it targeted “the Quranic school of Sheikh Al-Burai, causing dozens of deaths and injuries among students and scholars.” The group said its medical teams were working alongside local authorities to treat the wounded and assess damage.

However, a Sudanese military source denied the accusation, telling Darfur24 that the RSF itself was behind the drone attack. The source said “a strategic RSF drone launched two missiles at the area located 95 kilometers east of El Obeid,” injuring several students and damaging vehicles.

The North Kordofan State government condemned the attack in a statement, saying the Al-Zariba area hosts thousands of families who have migrated there from across Sudan.

Al-Zariba, located about 100 kilometers northeast of El Obeid, is one of Sudan’s most renowned religious centers, known for the Quranic schools established by Sheikh Abdul Rahim Al-Burai. The area lies roughly 300 kilometers southwest of Khartoum.
